Acetonitrile

The pharmaceutical industry is the largest end use for acetonitrile, which uses it as a reagent, reaction solvent, or extraction solvent. Acetonitrile is used as a starting material to synthesize vitamins A and B1, cortisone, carbonate drugs, and some amino acids. Moreover, acetonitrile is also used as a solvent in the production of insulin and antibiotics, including third-generation cephalosporins. The second-largest use of acetonitrile is as a mobile phase in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Minor uses include agricultural chemicals, butadiene extraction, and the production of intermediates. Acetonitrile is also used as a solvent in UV spectroscopy and polarography.

Methanol

Methanol is primarily used as an industrial solvent to help create inks, resins, adhesives, and dyes. It is also used as a solvent in the manufacture of important pharmaceutical ingredients and products such as cholesterol, streptomycin, vitamins and hormones. This compound is also used as an antifreeze (an additive that is used to lower the freezing point of a liquid) in many pipelines. It is also used in sewage treatment plants since it serves as a carbon-based food source for denitrifying bacteria. The polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) technique involves the use of methanol as a destaining agent. A mixture of water and methanol is used in high-performance engines in order to increase power. Methanol is used in the production of hydrocarbons, olefins, and some aromatic compounds. It is also used in the production of methyl esters and methylamines

Acetone

In the pharmaceutical industry, acetone is often used as a solvent in fillers and active ingredients to ensure accurate dosage of medicine.Acetone is also commonly used in the medical field to clean and sterilize medical tools and equipment. Many cosmetic products such as face creams and lotions contain acetone as an ingredient to thin the product. Acetone is also the main ingredient in nail polish remover. One of the most common uses of acetone is in gasoline for cars. The Petroleum industry uses acetone as an additive to thin out gasoline, allowing it to move easily through the engine and increase fuel efficiency.
